Chelsea is a Law Clerk at Krogh & Decker, LLP. Chelsea has been interested in the legal field since high school. She attended Highline University and received her paralegal certification alongside an AA with a focus in law. Chelsea then transferred to the University of Washington and majored in International Relations. Chelsea's end goal is to become an attorney and will begin her third year of law school at Lincoln Law School in Fall 2019. Chelsea's legal experience includes assisting attorneys with cases ranging from pro-bono low-income housing issues to extensive multi-million-dollar construction defect cases with family law and complex shareholder disputes in-between. Chelsea is passionate about providing superior service to our clients by striving to ensure that each client's individual needs are met and only the best work is produced. When not at work, in class, or studying for exams, Chelsea can be found hiking the many beautiful trials in the surrounding Sacramento area or camping with family and friends.

Derek is a partner at Krogh & Decker, LLP. Derek formed the law firm with Shawn M. Krogh so they could build a business that would truly take care of the client, and provide top notch legal service, while at the same time create a workplace where employees look forward to coming to work every day. He believes that if every day you work hard, smart, and take care of the people that pay you and the people who work for you and, not only will you succeed but so will your clients and employees. Derek has a keen understanding of human nature and uses that understanding to step into his client's shoes and know their position and story inside out, accurately assess the facts and nuances of a case that a judge or jury will be more attuned to, and to outmaneuver opposing counsel and adverse parties. Derek practices civil litigation, handles transactional work, and provides day to day legal advice to all types of businesses. His focus includes employment matters, contract disputes, real estate matters, construction law, administrative law, trade secret violations, fraud, defamation and shareholder disputes. He has represented parties ranging from individuals to multinational corporations and throughout his career has litigated and tried highly contentious and complicated matters. He has substantial experience representing insurance companies and other institutional clients, and understands the advantages gained by knowing your case early and in detail, and positioning a case for success at trial before it is even filed.

Inessa joined Krogh & Decker as a Legal Assistant in November 2018. As a child Inessa wanted to be a diplomat however, since finishing school she has a pursued a career in the legal field. Inessa brings several years of experience working in civil litigation. Her can do and determined spirit adds value to the K&D team and she enjoys the opportunity to continue to grow and become even more proficient in her role. Inessa believes all three K&D values work together. She believes putting the client first leads to the success of both the client and the team. Demanding excellence ensures work is done properly and contributes to both the client and team success. Lastly, being cool with each other promotes a healthy work environment which enables the team to continue producing quality work and put the client first. Inessa is well traveled and fluent in English, Romanian, and Russian. When she is not at work she enjoys ice skating and the opportunity to take trips with her husband.

Jason joined Krogh & Decker in May 2018 as a Law Clerk. Jason graduated from McGeorge School of Law with Distinction and made the Dean's List each year. Jason received certificates of concentration in both Business Law and Tax. While in Law School Jason developed an appreciation for business law and was selected to extern in the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California. Jason became an Associate at Krogh & Decker in 2019. Equipped with an entrepreneurial spirit, Jason appreciates the many challenges business owners face. This appreciation aligns perfectly with the K&D core value "Put the client first." Prior to law school, Jason worked in finance. This background has helped Jason understand the importance of sound and accurate legal advice. When not representing his clients, Jason is a musician, who has performed all along the west coast. Jason's musical background helps Jason bring creative solutions to ensure the best results for his clients.

Julia joined the K&D team as a Legal Assistant in December 2018. She has a degree in Art History from the University of California, Davis. Julia finds fulfilled by working with passionate, responsible, and high performing professionals. Her previous experience as an assistant in a Workers' Compensation law firm taught her the importance of taking care of the client and providing quality work. Julia has had the opportunity to travel extensively and looks forward to continued exploration. A Sacramento native, Julia is proud to see local businesses succeed and contribute to the city's unique, thriving character. She looks forward to contributing to support K&D's relationships with local businesses and entrepreneurs. Julia was most attracted to K&D's "Be Cool With Each Other" value. She feels a team works confidently when they share common goals and values and respects the unique contributions of each team member.

Kelsey is a Law Clerk at Krogh & Decker, LLP. She attends the part-time evening program at McGeorge and expects to graduate in 2024. She attended Saint Mary's College as a first generation college student and graduated cum laude with a philosophy degree. Kelsey is a Sacramento native and daughter of a small business owner. As such, she appreciates the attention and care K&D provides their small business owner clients. Take care of the client is the K&D core value she connects with most. Hospitality comes naturally to Kelsey and she enjoys being able to assist in taking care of each client's legal needs with attention to the quality of her work. Outside of business hours, Kelsey enjoys trying out new recipes, hanging out with her dogs and traveling with her fiance.

Laila joined Krogh & Decker, LLP in December 2014. Drawing on her experience both in and outside of the legal field, Laila has enjoyed the opportunity to provide a wide range of support at K&D, from legal assistant to her current role as firm administrator. Laila has enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with the partners in developing and implementing the firm's standard practices and overseeing the day to day operations of the firm. Laila works hard to support the team at K&D as well as meeting the needs of our clients. Laila chose to join the K&D team in large part because of the firm's values. Laila feels the values are circular and work best when each is balancing the other. Each value leads to, or connects to, the next and Laila believes each value is fundamental to offering the best service while attracting and retaining the best talent. When Laila isn't in the office she can be found preparing and sharing food and drink with family and friends, running, hiking, or reading a really good book.

Shawn is a partner at Krogh & Decker, LLP. Shawn formed the law firm with Derek C. Decker in November 2014, so that he could focus on serving the needs of small and mid-sized businesses. While a businessman at heart, Shawn has a background in politics. Shawn uses the skills that he learned in the Governor's Office background to navigate big personalities and give everyone the feeling that they won something. He enjoys using the law to aid his clients. From crafting the perfect legal argument to drafting the most exquisite contract to developing sound legal strategies, Shawn's attention to detail makes him an extremely effective legal counselor. At the heart of all of Shawn's advice is the cost/benefit analysis. It is his balance of legal and business knowledge that prevents emotion from overruling sound judgment. Shawn's practice includes civil litigation and business transactions. Today, Shawn spends most of his time preventing lawsuits before they arise, advising clients on day-to-day business best practices, and strategizing successful resolutions to contentious cases. Throughout his career, Shawn has represented businesses, business owners, and entrepreneurs. Many of his clients include construction companies, engineers, manufacturers, technology businesses, brewers and wineries, and real estate investment firms. Shawn connects with his clients by taking the time to understand their needs, goals and objectives.
